Firewood may harbor many different kinds of invasive pests and diseases, including various wood-boring insects, which can inflict significant damage to Washington’s trees and forests. Other types of wood, such as crates used in shipping and international trade, may harbor wood-boring insects or gypsy moths traveling from distant parts of the world.

If you’re a recreational trail user or camper, you may help prevent the spread of invasive species by buying your firewood near where you plan to burn it.
